Festivus Maximus Decorations

DISCLAIMER: This post is about NFL Football, specifically Baltimore Ravens Football.  If you are not a Ravens fan, there’s still time to convert.  You may also enjoy this post and adapt it to you and your team’s needs.

Around here, we’re getting pretty excited.  Actually, we’ve been pretty excited.  You see, our Baltimore Ravens are going to New Orleans for Super Bowl 47.  That’s XLVII if you’re fancy and all that ;)  Today I’d like to share with you a few of our decorations we have for Festivus Maximus ( a Seinfeld term first adopted by Coach Brian Billick when the team went to Tampa Bay in 2001.)  I hope you enjoy them, or at least perhaps they’ll give you inspiration for when the NFL season starts back up in the fall.

Like always, I try to use whatever I may have around the house and alter it to frugally and sufficiently fit our needs.  So let’s proceed, shall we?

This “Raven” is from the Dollar Store from around Halloween.  He and the rest of his flock may be found perched on the mantle or atop the Ravens Christmas tree, as seen in the picture above.

And the Ravens Christmas tree.  That was an after holiday purchase made last Christmas.  And, yes, it’s purple.

Here’s a pic of the tree.  No doubt, number 52 is atop the tree and then surrounded by his team members (image print-outs from the computer.)

This ornament on the tree is a foam snowflake, again from the Dollar Store.  The Ravens image is from a Miller Lite box, I believe…just keepin’ it real folks.

I decorated a few Christmas ornaments with glitter using Ravens colors of purple and gold and also made a few ornaments of purple and black by putting acrylic paint inside clear bulb ornaments.

The purple “garland” on the tree may or may not be one of the girls’ broken dress-up necklaces.  I really couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried.

Here’s our Happy Festivus garland that graces our mantle.  This was made by using paint color samples from the hardware store.  You know they have paint that matches the official NFL colors out there.  I don’t think these are those but they do have them.

And, lastly, our Ravens wreath with the recently added beads for N’Orleans.  The Ravens image for this was from a paper plate.  The helmet, again, from recycling ML boxes.  Reduce-reuse-recycle, right???  The stocking is a tree ornament and the remaining adornments are Christmas picks.  The football is a sticker. The wreath will definitely need to be spruced up next fall as many pieces have faded from the sun.  But for now, it’s proudly being displayed as we are ENJOYING THE RIDE!

As soon as it warms up a bit, I’ll go put out some more black lights outside.  They were marked down for ten cents after Halloween and they are the perfect tint of purple as we count down for the third of February!  They will accompany the purple string lights (also from Halloween) that glow in the night.
