Inspired by my Felt Flower Pillows and all the Felt Flowers I’ve tagged on Pinterest, I decided to use the same idea to create holiday Poinsettia headbands for the girls to wear this holiday season.
Roughly using the same steps as illustrated in this Felt Flower Pillow tutorial I used, I made templates for the petals. I used two sizes.
I made a couple using various colors of felt.
I also cut a circle from the felt to use as the base for the petals.
Again, following the tutorial above from It Works for Bobbi, I glued the petals together using fabric glue and pinned them together to dry and seal.
The next day, I unpinned the petals and began spacing them together on the circular base using hot glue. For this size poinsettia, I used 8 of the larger size petals and 6 of the smaller size petals.
To accessorize, I added a few pin heads from the straight pins for the stamen (I think that’s right!???!) of the flower.
I cut a few leaves from bright green to pop against the classic red.
For the ponytail holder, I glued the elastic down and sealed it with the leaves. For the pin, I simply glued the pin onto the circular base of the flower.
I think these will be cute for the girls and I to wear this holiday season as well as adorn holiday gifts we give. Another bonus, all supplies were on hand in the out-of-hand craft closet so this craft was free!
Wait…What’s that you say? You never saw my No-Sew Pillow? Go check it out. It’s posted over on Istagram . Find me at jac7275.
